Ipulasi is “FĀOA"

   Lt. Gov. Ipulasi Aitofele Sunia has been awarded the chief title “Fāoa” of Ofu, Manua.  Thus the change in our gubernatorial team name.  We are now “TOGIOLA- FĀOA”.

   FĀOA is an “alii” title.  It has been vacant since 1992.  The last holder was Senator Fāoa Tilotilo who held the respectable Ofu title for many years.  

   The Lt. Gov’s father, Pastor Fiti Sunia, was a member of the Fāoa family.  

   The choice of Aitofele Sunia as “Fāoa” was made by the aiga potopoto following a number of meetings.  Talking Chief Toeaina Faufao, a former member of the House of Representatives, was the lone objector.  At a Court hearing on May 15^th, Toeaina withdrew his objection allowing registration of the “Faoa” title to Aitofele Sunia.

   In the first meeting of the re-election committee, at the Fagaalu headquarters, Governor Togiola announced the new matai title for the Lt. Governor and the new name for the Team:  Togiola-Fāoa.

   Fāoa says he will call a family meeting shortly, to plan the formal traditional installation at Ofu.

   “Ipulasi” is a tulafale title of the Lutu family of Fagatogo and Utulei.  His wife, Elisapeta, is a member of Lutu family.
