Togiola T.A. Tulafono

Togiola was born on the island of Aunu'u and raised in Vatia where his parents, Tulafono Faagau and Silika Vaatu'itu'i were pastors of the Christian Congregational Church.
He attended Vatia Elementary, Marist Brothers School and graduated from Samoana High School.  Togiola began his ASG service as a policeman, following his graduation from the Honolulu Police Department Academy.  

Togiola completed his undergraduate degree at Chadron State College, Nebraska and received his Juris Doctor from Washburn Univerisity in Topeka, Kansas.  He is a member of the Kansas Bar Association and the American Samoa Bar Association.  Togiola was the first District Judge of the District Court of American Samoa.

He first entered the Senate in 1980 for the county of Sa'ole as Fagafā of the village of Alofau.  In 1988, he returned as one of Sua's two senators as High Alii Togiola of Sailele.

He was the first chairman of the American Samoa Power Authority (ASPA) Board of Directors.  He also chaired the American Samoa Community College Board for a number of years.  He served in the American Samoa Economic Development Agency and on the USDOT Economic Advisory Council.  In 1996, he joined the ticket of Tauese Sunia and became Lt. Governor.

As Lt. Governor, Togiola chaired the Organizing Committee for the South Pacific Mini Games held in American Samoa in 1997.  He also chaired the Centennial celebrations in 2000.  He and Governor Sunia were re-elected in November, 2000.

After the tragic loss of Governor Sunia in 2003, Togiola carried out the rest of the term as Governor interim, until the General elections in November of 2004, when he was officially elected to his first term as Governor of American Samoa with running mate, Fāoa (formerly Ipulasi) Sunia.

Togiola has served as the Chairman for the Congregational Christian Church of American Samoa, and is currently the Vice Chairman.
